Switch to using SNMPv3
-
page count validation using hardware checks
-
toner levels and notifications
-
printer status, for example, to block jobs in error being released.
By default PaperCut NG/MF uses SNMPv1/v2c, which usually requires no configuration. If your organization has a policy in place that does not allow SNMPv1/v2c traffic on the network, then you can configure PaperCut to use SNMPv3 instead.
-
SNMPv1/v2c—When a printer is in error, PaperCut NG/MF provides the ability to block the release of print jobs from:
-
standard release stations
-
web-based release stations
-
embedded application at an MFD.
This minimizes the chance of someone releasing a print job, only for the document to print later when the user is no longer at the printer.
For more information, see Prevent jobs being released from an MFD Release Station when a device is in error

-
SNMPv3—When a printer is in error, PaperCut NG/MF provides the ability to block the release of print jobs from the embedded application at the MFD. It doesn't support the other release methods.
-
When SNMPv3 is enabled, PaperCut NG/MF can't perform Hardware Page Count validation.
For a full description of how both versions work with PaperCut NG/MF, take a look at the knowledge base article: Is PaperCut compatible with SNMPv3?

For MFDs, in the Admin web interface click Devices. The External Device List page is displayed. Configure PaperCut MF according to the MFD's Embedded Guide.
-
For printers, in the Admin web interface click Printers. The Printer List page is displayed.

Complete the fields using exactly the same details as on the corresponding device.
NOTEIf on the device there is no mention of a Context name, then leave the Context Name field blank.
-
Click Apply.
NOTEFor bulk application of SNMPv3 across a large fleet, you can either use the six server commands for SNMPv3 to script the change, or configure one printer/MFD and bulk copy the settings across the others.
